BRADLEY LOCKERMAN
as Zed Diamond/James Desmond
Arriving in 1983 to buy Mario's restaurant and DCAP-TV, Zed Diamond promptly elavated gloominess to an art form.
With a past murkier than his dark demeanor, he soon aroused the suspicions of Tyler McCandless... who feared Zed wanted to arouse something else with wife Julie. Actually, Zed did have an attraction to Julie, but with good reason: she was a dead-ringer for his late wife Jenny! The daughter of crimelord Victor Markham, Jenny had supposedly been murdered the night of her wedding. Zed assumed an alias (his real name being James Desmond) and vowed to find the man responsible for killing his wife.
In 1985, he realized the futility of his quest when both Jenny and her father turned up in Washington very much alive! They had been in hiding for three years, hoping to escape from criminals out for blood. Zed reunited with his "late wife" only to realize he was far better off believing her dead. Mentally unbalanced, Jenny suspected Zed had renewed his relationship with former lover Sloane Denning. Although he hadn't, deranged Jenny tainted a bottle of table wine in a misguided attempt to kill her rival. However, the plot went awry, and all three were poisoned, affording Zed the remarkably rare opportunity to bury both his past and his wife for a second time!
