KIMBERLY BECK
as Julie Clegg
Daughter to Sam and Myrna Clegg and twin sister of Jordy, Julie was the black sheep of the Clegg family (ie, so saintly sweet you could slice her open and she'd bleed butterscotch).
Much of her initial storyline focused on a star-crossed romance with Captain Tyler McCandless, the show's other saint who also happened to be a member of the family most hated by Julie's. Being so nice also meant she was the unfortunate target of frequent victimization and nine kinds of disaster. For instance, a boat explosion in September 1982 left her with amnesia, after which she was kidnapped by her father to keep her away from Tyler, then she was almost tricked into marrying slimy Lawrence Barrington, an imposter who turned out to be a Russian spy! Ultimately, Julie got herself out of that mess, regained her memory, and left town to ponder the trouble her prospective marriage to Tyler would surely bring.
CATHERINE HICKLAND
as Julie Clegg McCandless
In the summer of 1983, Julie returned to Washington, married Tyler in July, and settled down to a peacful life of marital bliss... or so she thought.
First, she got pregnant, but was faced with the difficult decision of terminating the pregnancy when it became life-threatening. Before she could decide, she lost the baby, and nearly her mind, while fighting an attraction to mysterious Zed Diamond and worrying about Tyler, who was kidnapped and held hostage in an Italian monastery.
No sooner had she survived that crisis (as well as a drug overdose), Julie adopted a black market baby and narrowly escaped being raped and murdered after she was kidnapped by the Mob in late 1985. Julie's final story found her desperately trying to clear her name in the attempted murder of Mark Denning, a crime actually committed by her lookalike Jenny Diamond.
With actress Catherine Hickland busy playing the dual role of Julie and nutty Jenny, the writers finally gave the former a little respite from so much melodrama. Julie raised baby Allison alone (Ty was off working for Interpol in Switzerland) and provided sympathetic support for other characters, who took up the slack in having bad-things-happen-to-good-people.
